INTELLIGENCE?

Intelligence is a crucial part in the planning and conduct of all operations. Intelligence obtains and analyses a variety of sources to ensure understanding of adversaries, and to find threats.

 

Whether using linguistic skills to interpret foreign language transmissions, or providing vital analysis to support military forces deployed around the world, there will be new challenges every day.

OFFICER

You will manage a team of Intelligence Analysts and Linguists, obtaining, analysing and presenting defence intelligence from a variety of sources.
AVIATOR
ROLES
Whether using your skills as a linguist, or using state-of-the-art technology to gather intelligence, you’ll play a key role in protecting RAF personnel and assets.

There are opportunities to develop your linguistic skills and put them to use interpreting foreign language transmissions, and you’ll gather valuable information using state-of-the-art surveillance systems.

Become an Intelligence Officer and you’ll be managing a team of Intelligence Analysts and Linguists working to obtain, analyse and present defence intelligence from a variety of sources.

 

Your role will take you around the globe, working alongside counterparts in the Royal Navy, the British Army and NATO.

What qualifications do I need for Intelligence roles?

TO APPLY FOR AN INTELLIGENCE OFFICER ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47
  • Have GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or above; or SNE equivalent grade 5 or above in
    Mathematics, English Language and three other subjects.
  • In addition, you need at least 2 A2 Levels/3 Highers at Grade C or above (excluding General Studies or Critical Thinking) which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points.
  • Alternatively, if you hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or higher (or acceptable alternative) you only need Mathematics and English Language GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or Mathematics and English Language SCE Standard Grades of 2 or SNE Grade 5.
  • Be a UK citizen from birth, have resided in the UK for 7 years immediately prior to application and your parents/spouse must currently have UK citizenship.


TO APPLY FOR AN INTELLIGENCE ANALYST ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47
  • Have GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or above; or SNE equivalent grade 5 or above in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Be a UK citizen from birth, have resided in the UK for 7 years immediately prior to application and your parents/spouse must currently have UK citizenship.
Do I need to be physically fit for Intelligence roles?
  • Every person in the RAF is required to maintain a level of fitness to complete both initial and specialist training, and to do their role effectively. The exact fitness requirements will depend on your role, age and gender.
  • Fitness is a key part of RAF life – with all the clubs and sports you can get involved with on a wide variety of levels, from occasional fun to Olympic competition.
Where will I be based?

The RAF has bases for intelligence all over the UK and abroad. All intelligence personnel at some point will be required to complete training courses at MOD Chicksands, but what exactly this entails and where you will go on from there is dependent on your role and what each base currently requires.
