Reserve life
Use your spare time to develop transferable skills, increase your self-confidence, take on adventurous training, and meet people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Age
Roles are available for 18 - 54 year olds (you must attest before your 55th birthday).
Where will I be based?
You will be based at a Squadron local to you, where you will undertake all of your training for the role you have applied for. You will have a two-week block of training each year, primarily for exercises or extra training. You may also be operationally deployed on your station, depending on the role you do, or you could be deployed overseas or elsewhere in the UK in support of Regular personnel.

Your base
You could be relocated to a different base at some point during each 12-year contract. The move could be to a UK, overseas or temporary base for up to 6 months, plus another 6 months for pre-deployment training and post-deployment relaxation with your loved ones.
Activities
You could be travelling with your unit, filling in for another member of the RAF, or working alongside Regulars and Reserves from other services. You could also be part of a small team dedicated to a particular job or a big disaster relief mission.
Cost and timescale
We’ll cover your costs and provide advice and assistance to your family when you’re away. The maximum period you’ll be away from your employer is one year and you can find advice and guidance about this on the Defence Relationship Management website.
