Logistics is not only the engine of the Royal Air Force and ensure the smooth running of bases, it is the source of food and entertainment, keeping personnel moving both on ground and in the air.

If you're interested in vehicles and machinery, Logistics takes care of the movement of vehicles, personnel and cargo. If keeping personnel fuelled is more your thing Logistics also covers hospitality where RAF Chefs will order and account for food and its preparation both out in the field as well as at special events, supported by Stewards whom are responsible for the safety and welfare of passengers.

What qualifications do I need for Logistics roles?

TO APPLY FOR A LOGISTICS OFFICER ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47
  • Have GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or above; or SNE equivalent grade 5 or above in Mathematics, English Language and three other subjects.
  • In addition, you need at least 2 A2 Levels/3 Highers at Grade C or above (excluding General Studies or Critical Thinking) which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points.
  • Alternatively, if you hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or higher (or acceptable alternative) you only need Mathematics and English Language GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or Mathematics and English Language SCE Standard Grades of 2 or SNE Grade 5.
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).

 

TO APPLY FOR A LOGISTICS AVIATOR ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 16 and 47*
  • No formal educational qualifications such as GCSEs or A-Levels are required.**
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).


*For a Driver role you must be between 17 and 47
**For a Driver role, you must have at least, a UK DVLA provisional driving licence. In addition, you must not have any endorsements (penalty points) or a driving ban which would prevent you from holding an LGV licence, if you are under the age of 21. A maximum of 3 penalty points for Minor Traffic Offences (such as SP30) will be accepted for over 21 years of age. Any serious driving convictions (such as DR 10 to DR 30) are not acceptable due to the limitations on the type of employment you will undertake.

 

Do I need to be physically fit for Logistics roles?

  • Every person in the RAF is required to maintain a level of fitness to complete both initial and specialist training, and to do their role effectively. The exact fitness requirements will depend on your role, age and gender.

 

  • Fitness is a key part of RAF life – with all the clubs and sports you can get involved with on a wide variety of levels, from occasional fun to Olympic competition.

Where will I be based?

The RAF Logistics personnel work on RAF bases all over the UK and abroad. Where you will be exactly is dependent on your role and what each base currently requires. Speak with your local AFCO for more information.
