WHAT IS PEOPLE
OPERATIONS?

The RAF is what it is because of its people and it’s the role of People Operations to ensure they’re protected in their work by HR, and celebrated through media opportunities.

 

Working across a range of specialities including Infrastructure Management, HR, Development, Accounts Management and Media Operations, they are the oil that keeps the RAF machine running smoothly.

You’ll lead and manage essential support services on permanent RAF bases and operations around the world, developing a broad set of transferable skills.

You’ll support RAF personnel and their families with all matters, from housing and pay, to travel, in a diverse, exciting and highly rewarding role.

You’ll be the team supporting everyone in the RAF. You could join as a People Specialist, advising on all aspects of RAF life, preparing personnel for all eventualities and supporting them throughout.

 

As a People Operations Officer you’ll be working across a number of specialities, including Infrastructure Management, HR and Accounts Management.

What qualifications do I need for People Operations roles?

TO APPLY FOR A PEOPLE OPERATIONS OFFICER ROLE, YOU NEED TO:

  • Below are the minimum requirements for all People Operations Officer roles, but a number of roles will require additional qualifications. Exact requirements for individual Officer roles can be found on the relevant role pages. *
  • Be aged between 16 and 49, however, the exact range will depend on the role.
  • At a minimum have GCSEs at grade C/4 or Scottish National 5 at grade C or above in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).

 

 

TO APPLY FOR A PEOPLE OPERATIONS AVIATOR ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Below are the minimum requirements for all People Operations Aviator roles, but a number of roles will require additional qualifications and higher educational requirements. Exact requirements for individual roles can be found on the relevant role pages. 
  • Be aged between 16 and 47 (must attest before 48th birthday), however, the exact range will depend on the role.
  • GCSEs at grade C/4 or Scottish National 5 at grade C in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).

 

Do I need to be physically fit for People Operations roles?
  • Every person in the RAF is required to maintain a level of fitness to complete both initial and specialist training, and to do their role effectively. The exact fitness requirements will depend on your role, age and gender.
  • Fitness is a key part of RAF life – with all the clubs and sports you can get involved with on a wide variety of levels, from occasional fun to Olympic competition.
Where will I be based?

People Operations roles are spread across RAF bases all over the UK and abroad. Where you will be exactly is dependent on your role and what each base currently requires. Speak with your local AFCO for more information.
