Why you should be an officer

Training

We believe in lifelong learning, so training will continue throughout your career. On top of your basic training, you’ll complete specialist training designed for your role alongside hands-on experience. You may also have the opportunity to complete award-winning apprenticeships recognised in the wider world and even degrees alongside your role.

Pay & Holiday

The entry rate of pay from day one is £33,100. On promotion to the rank of Flight Lieutenant pay increases to £50,500+. Further pay rises are dependent on promotion and time served. You’re also entitled to 6 weeks annual leave each year, plus public holidays. And, on top of your salary, you’ll be able to take part in sporting opportunities in the RAF without using your annual leave.

Personal Development

Our aim isn’t just to make you an outstanding Officer, but also to give you valuable skills for life. You'll be provided with countless opportunities to grow and develop your leadership and managerial skills in all sorts of ways. By continually pushing your thinking and your potential, we believe you’ll be able to raise your and your team’s capabilities and standards.

Other Benefits

You’ll be entitled to a highly competitive benefits package which includes everything from subsidised accommodation, food and travel; to free gym membership and specialist healthcare; to discounts and offers from national retailers on things like holidays, cars, days out, fashion and gifts. You’ll also earn an Armed Forces Pension (one of the most generous schemes in the UK, with no personal contribution required).
