Security and Resilience Operations protects and enables the Royal Air Force through a technologically advanced organisation with reach, agility and innovation at its core.

As part of Security and Resilience Operations you will work across the RAF carrying out crucial duties to protect personnel, RAF bases, assets and operations overseas. Not only will you be trained in a range of specialist skills, you could also join an elite team working to train others and help defend RAF assets around the globe.

You will have to keep your cool in the toughest situations, working on the ground to ensure control of the air.

Officers in this profession can be commanding Regiment Gunners, protecting our bases, or carrying out investigations. You could manage and deliver the training the entire RAF needs.

AVIATOR ROLES

You could be a Regiment gunner or RAF Police, defending our bases at home and abroad. Or a training instructor, driving the entire RAF's fitness.

RAF Security and Resilience Operations offers a range of opportunities to help keep the RAF safe.

You will be part of the team on the ground charged with protecting and securing forward operating bases from both internal and external threats, whilst also being responsible for the design, delivery and management of training and fitness across the Royal Air Force. You will protect and develop our people, enabling our capability and providing operational advantage over our adversaries.

You could specialise in combat and field craft to defend RAF bases and overseas air operations. Or why not join our RAF Police Force? Conducting criminal and security investigations in aviation, Counter Intelligence and Law Enforcement.

In Security and Resilience Operations you could become an RAF Regiment Officer. Specialising in weaponry and leading RAF Regiment squadrons to help protect the RAF. There's also an option to become an RAF Police Officer, using your leadership skills to guide a team of RAF policemen and women to protect the RAF from potential threats.

What qualifications do I need for Security & Resilience roles?

TO APPLY FOR A SECURITY AND RESILIENCE OFFICER ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47
  • Have GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or above; or SNE equivalent grade 5 or above in Mathematics, English Language and three other subjects.
  • In addition, you need at least 2 A2 Levels/3 Highers at Grade C or above (excluding General Studies or Critical Thinking) which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points.
  • Alternatively, if you hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or higher (or acceptable alternative) you only need Mathematics and English Language GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or Mathematics and English Language SCE Standard Grades of 2 or SNE Grade 5.
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).

 

TO APPLY FOR A SECURITY AND RESILIENCE AVIATOR ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 16 and 47, however, the exact range will depend on the role.
  • Qualification requirements are dependent on the exact role. For roles such as a Regiment Gunner, no formal educational qualifications are required, however other roles may differ. Individual requirements can be found on the specific role pages. *
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, or holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Additionally, whether or not you were born in the UK, you should reside here for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered).

*The RAF Police role requires a full UK driving licence.

 

Do I need to be physically fit for Security & Resilience roles?

  • Every person in the RAF is required to maintain a level of fitness to complete both initial and specialist training, and to do their role effectively. The exact fitness requirements will depend on your role, age and gender.
  • Regiment roles such as RAF Regiment Officer and RAF Regiment Gunner require additional fitness requirements as part of PROC or PGSC courses. For specific information regarding fitness requirements for these roles visit the individual role pages.
  • Fitness is a key part of RAF life – with all the clubs and sports you can get involved with on a wide variety of levels, from occasional fun to Olympic competition.

Where will I be based?

Security and Resilience Operations roles are spread across RAF bases all over the UK and abroad. Where you will be exactly is dependent on your role and what each base currently requires. Speak with your local AFCO for more information.
